Local Year 6 students are becoming familiar with the world of high school in anticipation of entering year 7 in 2014. Oberon High School offers an extensive Year 6 into 7 transition program for students from the feeder schools of Oberon Public, O'Connell, Black Springs and Hampton. The program is facilitated by Mr Trent Grantham, who will be the Year 7 Advisor in 2014.
Last week the Year 6 students "enjoyed" a History class where they were introduced to methods of torture used in medieval times. This is part of the compulsory Medieval History unit they will be studying in more detail next year.
They also participated in a PE class where they played games that required concentration and quick reactions, responding to instructions. This was followed by a game of slide hockey in the gym.
This program is designed to make the students' transition from primary school to high school as stress free as possible. The program has been running over a number of weeks with students spending part of the day at the high school, learning the layout of the school, meeting teachers and meeting the school captains and vice-captains. It culminates with the Year 6 students spending a whole day at the high school later this term.
