Recently three Year 11 students participated in an Outdoor Recreation Camp at Lithgow. TAFE NSW Western Institute's Lithgow College is the largest training provider of nationally accredited Outdoor Recreation Training and Assessment in Australia.
Over ten days our students undertook outdoor activities ranging from canyoning and canoeing to rock climbing. While most of the activities required the application of strong team skills, the students all gained personally from the individual challenges of uncomfortable circumstances, new experiences and being pushed to their physical limits. Friendships were formed through working together co-operatively on physically and mentally challenging tasks, as well as through the camaraderie around the campfire at the end of the long days.
This camp articulates into a further camp in which students can gain a nationally recognised Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation (TVET).
Our three participants have great memories of this camp and highly recommend that other students take up the opportunity to attend. They are all very enthusiastic to attend their next camp.
