Oberon High School students have entered the Western NSW Culinary Challenge to be held on Wednesday, 30th October at the Bathurst Entertainment Centre. The competition is designed for high school hospitality students, apprentice chefs and baristas, and gives them a chance to showcase their skills and win some fabulous prizes. Think the high pressure of the reality show "Masterchef" and you'll have some idea of what the students will experience.
Ivy Moore, Lourie Bailey, Shannon Foley, Josh Harvey, Bec McCusker and Angie Massey are the students who will take part under the guidance of Mrs Paula Hotham, Hospitality teacher, and Mr Daniel Eggins. Principal, Mr Ken Barwick said that the school was extremely pleased to have Daniel, a parent and trained chef, to help prepare the students for this year's competition. Daniel has been working in the hospitality industry for a number of years and currently owns the Katoomba St Café in Katoomba. He has kindly agreed to help the school by providing cookery demonstrations, industry knowledge, skills transfer, work experience opportunities and mentoring.
This is a great extra-curricular activity that is expanding the Hospitality students' skills and knowledge through valuable industry specific teaching and experience. Hopefully we can report on a great win at the end of October!
