Last week saw the first of Oberon High School's sporting carnivals – the swimming carnival - held at the Oberon Pool. All week leading up to the carnival, the weather had been extremely hot but Thursday, the day of the carnival, started out with a very cold breeze. Luckily the conditions improved and the 2014 swimming carnival was a great success.
Age champions are Georgia Rich and Rhydah Leihn (13 years); Olivia Sullivan and Wil Melchers (14 years); Joe Rich (15 years); Chloe Swannell and Tom Ryan (16 years); and Kate Whalan and Josh Harvey (17 years +). Runners-up are Alicia Maclure, Charlie Bailey, Jess Maclure, Jack Pincott, Kane Arriola, Brodin Corby, Izzy Ross, Jayden Fagg, Rebekah Toohill and Kaine Cuthbert. Congratulations to all these students on their participation and achievement.
The winning house on the day, by a very convincing margin, was Tuglow. Our other two houses, Abercrombie and Werong, will have a chance to turn the tables on Tuglow at the athletics carnival later in the year.
In addition to the serious swimming events, a competition was also held for the best belly flop, and a relay race between the students and teachers resulted in a clear win for the students. Good fun all round.
Congratulations to the whole student body for their sportsmanlike behaviour on the day and for their enthusiastic participation.Picture shows Oberon High's 2014 swimming age champions and runners-up with their certificates.
