Each year students from Oberon High and Oberon Public Schools, who love horse riding, come together to form a combined Equestrian Team that achieves great things in the horse sports world.
Under the guidance of teacher Mrs Paula Hotham, who is a renowned horse sports athlete herself, the team travelled to Lithgow for the 2015 Evans Crown Horse Sports Day earlier in the year. Around 35 public and private schools from across the state compete at this huge horse sports day each year. This year the Evans Crown team comprised Emily and Kira-Lee Thomas, Georgie Rich, Felicity and Victoria Webb. Congratulations to Kira-Lee Thomas who won Reserve Age Champion.
In late May, year 8 student Emily Thomas and her father traveled to Coonabarabran where she represented Oberon High School competing in numerous events at the North West Equestrian Expo. The weather was wet and very cold and the competitors had to take special precautions with the slippery conditions. Although there were over 100 competitors in Emily's age group, she came a creditable 3rd in the time trials.
Many thanks to the parents who support these students in many ways including providing transport for students and their horses to and from the events – without your support and the talent of the students, the Oberon Equestrian Team members would not achieve the great results they do.
